Delegates should have previously attended and passed our Unit 1 Fire Detection Design before booking and attending this course.
Building directly on from the knowledge and understanding gained through attendance on Unit 1, this course will further develop the essential technical knowledge to install and test hard wired fire detection and fire alarm systems, including details on the component parts of the system through the correct positioning of those components and on to testing the system prior to commissioning. Delegates will undergo intensive training and ongoing assessment ensuring that they fully understand the subject and successfully complete the course.
This intensive course is run over one day and follows on from Unit 1 Fire Detection Design. Covering all areas of fire detection and fire alarm components, positioning and testing, delegates will be able to complete an installation project for both fire detection and alarm systems and carry out testing in preparation for the commissioning engineer.
Who should attend?
Delegates that have previously attended and passed the Unit 1 Fire Detection Design Course, and are involved in the initial installation of fire detection and fire alarm systems.
Delegates will gain an understanding of:
• The components used
• Technology of components
• Positioning of control panels
• Siting for call points and detectors
• Alarms and the limitations to use
• Cable types required
• Segregation of cables
• Cable volt drop
• Installer’s responsibilities
• Possible causes of false alarms
• Testing the wiring and components prior to commissioning
• Fault finding
All course delegates will be provided with a comprehensive manual covering the material included during the day and additional support material, serving as a valuable point of reference after completion of the training. The ongoing assessment included in the course will allow the trainer to monitor progress and provide additional assistance to learning where required. Delegates achieving 75% or more in the assessments will be awarded an FIA certificate stating that they have attended and passed the course.
During this course you will be provided with a manual to assist in the learning process and there are tests where you will be expected to read questions and write answers. The FIA is unable to make special provision for those who are unable to complete these tasks.
Benefits to the individual and your company:
- A thorough knowledge of fire detection and fire alarm systems allowing the delegate to carry out complete installation and testing prior to commissioning
- An understanding of faults leading to false alarms and how to identify and rectify them
